Dreamer, Looker, Planner Booker – digital marketing customer journey stages

There are many ways to describe the customers journey but I love the rhythmic nature of this one for holiday and travel marketing. Everyone wants the planner and booker but the dreamers will give your website relevance.

I spoke with a digital marketing manager in for one of the large cruise tour companies and she shared this slogan with me. It’s critical for them because their omni-channel approach caters for all of them.

Who is your customer

I remember an experienced (and now retired) educator who owned a Registered Training Organisation in the logistics market always asking me “who is your customer”.

He was talking about the “persona” that defines the ideal client but what’s becoming much more important these days is to build databases for prospects and customers otherwise you’ll be dependent on the cost per click nature of online advertising.

When I operated a water filter business in Dee Why in the 1990’s I was horrified at the thought that lots of restaurants, cafes and even bars have no idea who their customers are.

They are so dependent on their location that they thing a sign board with a special offer or an event reminder will encourage them to pop in and spend money.

I recall thinking about how lucky I was to have a database of customers for warranty and filter replacement reminders. That database generated 35% of all business revenue and because these customers trusted me I sold water filters online using a software program called ShopFactory in the 1990s!

Restaurants and cafes who don’t know their customers won’t get noticed
